At our Herbal Medicine Pharmacy we use a combination of raw herbs, granules, and pills. Raw herbs are traditionally used in making liquid decoctions which take time to prepare. Raw herbs can also be ground down to a powder and mixed with water to drink or as a topical paste.
Granules are like instant coffee in the sense that they can easily be added to hot water and ingested, thus they are less time consuming. The difference between granules and herb powders is that granules dissolve smoothly into water without the gritty, sandy texture that can sometimes occur with powdered herbs.
Pills are more common among Western culture. In this format, herbs are prepared in pill form and taken with water.
Safety, quality and potency guide our selection of herbal products and ingredients so that they free of pesticides and heavy metals for example.
RAW HERBS:
The raw herbs and granules we use are plant and mineral based. We don’t use animal products.
The raw herbs we use are premium whole natural herbs, mostly wild harvested and farm grown from quality, clean, pesticide-free plants from China. Where possible the herbs are certified organic. We order from suppliers who import from TCM manufacturing approved facilities.
GRANULES:
The granules are sourced from companies that have the stamp of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and that have rigorously tested the ingredients for proper herb identification and for impurities.
For example, one of our supplies is from KO DA Pharmaceuticals. On thier website it says: KO DA Pharmaceutical prioritizes safety first above all else. As the most trusted brand in Taiwan, KO DA is the only manufacturer to provide full transparency of manufacturing and quality control processes from start to finish. In Taiwan, KO DA is the first company to establish its Herbal Sourcing Project and also award-winning Cloud Herbal Tracing Platform via QR Code which details the agricultural base, planting methods, harvesting, safety inspections, testing methodologies and test results. This enables complete transparency and gives you the full picture on safety, reliability and ethical conduct of KO DA’s processes.
KO DA Pharmaceutical is internationally accredited by the Taiwan Food & Drug Administration (TFDA) and its laboratory is ISO/IEC17025:2005 certified by Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF). KO DA uses Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS-MS) for testing pesticides residues and Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES) for heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury and copper. In addition to safety, quality control also means to test for the strength, efficacy and consistency when sourcing superior raw materials to start with, raw herb identification, product stability, marker/active ingredients and essential oils content. KO DA Pharmaceutical adheres to 16 meticulous inspection methodologies – conducted throughout their entire quality control processes – from agricultural environment, raw material, during semi-finished, to finished product.
Each and every batch of KO DA Herbs are TAF laboratory batch certified and presented with the Certificate of Analysis (COA) that accurately reflects test results to the nearest parts-per-million (ppm).

PILLS:
The pills we use are sourced from well-known and respected companies that follow Good Manufacturing Practices and that have lab tested their ingredients to ensure the highest quality, bioavailability, and potency and that have rigorously tested for contaminants. For example, one company we have pills from is Kaiser Pharmaceuticals (KP).
On the USA website for KP it reads: For thousands of years, herbs have been used, studied, and celebrated for their therapeutic properties. Yet, the rapid industrialization over the past two centuries has dramatically changed the natural environment and the methods for the cultivation of herbs. Long ago, herbs were cultivated organically because of a lack of industrial means. Industry has greatly increased the productivity of farmers, but herbs now face threats to their safety and integrity from exposure to chemicals and industrial runoff. This includes industrial waste released into the environment and the chemical pesticides and fertilizers used by farmers to promote better yields.
KP’s top priority is guarding against these threats and ensuring the safety of their herbal products. KP believes all herb vendors share this responsibility. KP’s herbal products have gone through the world’s most rigorous testing standards and inspection processes. KP’s herbs pass tests for the full range of today’s contaminants. Tests include analysis for heavy metals, dangerous pesticides, sulfur dioxide, aflatoxins and aristolochic acid. These tests are integrated into their manufacturing process.
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is produced with each batch of herbs. The COA documents the excellent quality of their herbal extracts. Only batches that fulfill the ‘Golden Standard’ are packaged and distributed. The Golden Standard is a collection of the strictest criteria of the safety standards from the U.S., Singapore, the E.U. and Japan. The high standard ensures KP’s herbal products may be consumed safely across the world, making them truly world-class.
KP’s products represent over a century of expertise in the selection of herbs. This experience is combined with a state-of-the-art quality control system at the forefront of scientific development.
