Baduanjin Qigong – Eight Pieces of Brocade – Video 1
Learn to master your life force energy (qi) by performing the eight exercises of Baduanjin Qigong also called the Eight Pieces of Brocade. While qigong helps with overall wellness, research shows that qigong exercises can help to improve balance, bone strength, lower blood pressure and manage diabetes. This 25 minute class is taught by Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist Lana Marconi.
According to a research article in the Natural Medicine Journal (May 2010, Vol. 2 Issue 5), qigong is one modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine believed to be at least 4,000 years-old. Written records referring to “qi” and its effects are thought to be as old as 3,300 years (Shang dynasty oracle bones, Zhou dynasty inscriptions).
Similar to acupuncture, qigong is based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine belief that the human body contains a network of energy pathways called meridians through which vital energy, called qi, circulates. Qi is vital energy, breath or spirit. The second character in qigong, “gong,” means cultivation or mastery, thus qigong can be translated as “vital energy cultivation” or “mastery of your energy.”
